I spent last weekend with my best friend on one of the world’s most famous islands, Santorini. It wasn’t my first time on the island, but its surreal beauty never ceases to amaze me.
We stayed at Esperas Hotel located in Oia, a village situated at the northwestern part of the island.
The hotel is carved into the sides of the volcanic cliff just above Ammoudi bay in an idyllic location at the end of the village. The hotel offers three types of accommodation, studios, cave houses, and honeymoon suites located on various levels all perfectly positioned to enjoy the breathtaking views of the caldera and the sunset.
Our room for the weekend was a studio perfectly sized for two people. It combined the simple and elegant style of the Cyclades with the contemporary comforts in order to satisfy the visitor.
The king-size built bed dominated the room. The mattress made from eco-friendly material by Coco-mat is among the most comfortable ones I have ever slept in. The crisp white sheets and fluffy pillows also had a luxurious feel. Modern amenities like free Wi-Fi, Satellite TV, DVD/CD/MP3 player, and mini-safe are also available in the room. The room also has a small sitting area if you want to have breakfast indoors, a minibar, and tea and coffee facilities.
The bathroom has a marble floor, a built-in shower, and a variety of toiletries. Slippers, fluffy towels, and beach towels are also provided.
The highlight of our stay was the private balcony with incredible views of the caldera. We had our breakfast served there and at night we also enjoyed a bottle of wine.
A list of the breakfast menu is available in the room; you only need to choose what you want to eat, at what time, and where. You can have breakfast either at the restaurant or in your room. It was one of the tastiest meals I had with the most fantastic views.
At the lobby area, a small library with books, guides, and DVDs are available for guests to borrow. In front of the lobby, there is a large sun terrace with a swimming pool, lounges, and the hotel’s restaurant and bar.
The views from the hotel are breathtaking as they combine the black of the volcano rock, the blue of the sea and the sky, and the white of the houses.
This part of Oia is very famous for its stunning sunsets. The advantage of Esperas Hotel is that you can enjoy the same sunset from the privacy of your terrace and not with the masses. Unfortunately, on our recent stay, the weather wasn’t on our side as it was cloudy with a few drizzles, so we didn’t have the chance to enjoy the sunset from the hotel.
Esperas Hotel is also located a few steps away from Ammoudi bay famous for its fish taverns and boats that make daily excursions to the volcano and Thirasia island. The center of the village is only 5 minutes away on foot and the castle only 3 minutes.
If you are renting a car, free parking is available near the hotel. I should also warn you that in order to reach the hotel you have to go down a lot of steps making it unsuitable for people with mobility limitations and small children.
The hotel staff is very welcoming and polite. They can help you by booking excursions, transfers to the airport and port and by making suggestions on what to do and where to eat.
Esperas Hotel offers luxurious and minimalistic accommodation that combines a warm atmosphere with exceptional service in a magical setting. You will enjoy complete peace and tranquility in the most romantic place in the world, Santorini.
