I recently spent a weekend with my fiance in one of my favorite areas in Greece, Mani. We stayed in Petra & Fos Boutique Hotel located in the traditional seaside village of Oitilo in the region of Mani, in Southern Peloponnese. The hotel is situated at the foot of mountain Taygetos and enjoys unobstructed views of Oitilo gulf.

The hotel’s name translates into stone & light. It is built according to the local architecture, with elements of wood and stone so that it’s in complete harmony with the landscape. It features 23 rooms and suites, all with sea views.
We arrived at our hotel after a three & a half hour drive from Athens. Parking wasn’t a problem as the hotel offers free protected parking. We received a warm welcome from the reception staff, who checked us in very quickly and explained all the facilities available within the hotel. We were then escorted to our room, which was a comfort double room located on the ground floor. A welcome plate of fresh fruit was waiting for us in the room which was a nice gesture.
The room was very spacious and combined the contemporary luxury with the traditional Mani aesthetics. The elements of wood and stone prevailed in the space. It featured a king size bed with a very comfortable mattress, luxurious white linen and a selection of pillows. Other room amenities include a writing desk, a mini bar with reasonable prices, a mini safe, an LCD TV, an air-condition and free wifi.
The bathroom was spacious with a walk in shower, Apivita toiletries, fluffy bathrobes, towels, and slippers. Both the room and the bathroom were elegantly decorated with attention to detail.
Our room also had a balcony with a seating area from where we were able to enjoy a view of the sea.
As soon as we settled in the room, we went to explore the hotel’s outdoor areas. We found a beautiful patio with a seating area and one of the most beautiful swimming pools I have seen surrounded by luxurious lounges and umbrellas. We immediately changed into our swimsuits and enjoyed a refreshing swim with the most fantastic views of Oitilo gulf.
Other hotel facilities include a bar, a restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine by acclaimed chef Christoforos Peskias, who uses traditional Greek ingredients from the region.
Those looking for relaxation, there is a spa on site, a gym, and a sauna.
In the morning, we enjoyed an extensive breakfast buffet which included a variety of pastries, cakes, fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, cheese, ham and a selection of cooked food. Also, an inclusive a la carte menu with local flavors was available to order.
One of the hotel’s advantages is its location as Oitilo is the ideal starting point to explore the areas of Lakonia and Messinia.
I am outlining here a few things you can see around Petra & Fos Boutique Hotel:
- The picturesque village of Limeni famous for its fish tavernas.
- The town of Areopoli with the stone paved square and the stone alleys.
- The Diros Caves, one of the largest lake complex in the world.
- The incredible beaches, Kalogria, Faraggi Fonea, Delfinia, and Alypa.
- Cape Tainaron where the Gate of Adis is supposed to be.
- The traditional settlement of Vathia.
- The towns of Stoupa and Kardamyli.
- The many tower built villages.
- The many Byzantine churches.
I totally recommend Petra & Fos Boutique Hotel as it combines a perfect location, a luxurious environment, the most attentive staff and the traditional Greek hospitality.
I was a guest in Petra & Fos Boutique Hotel but as always opinions are my own.
